biography
Grew up on a farm near Prescott, Ar. Hunted quail and fished local ponds when I wasn’t practicing and playing baseball, football and basketball. Moved to Pine Bluff after my father died and graduated from PBHS in 1961. Have fond memories of those years and all the friendships. One of the highlights was playing on the undefeated PBHS State Champion baseball team. Attended the University of Arkansas from 1961- 1965, majoring in business mgmt and economics. Played on the Razorback baseball team, and was a member of the Air Force ROTC program.
On June 30, 1966 , I was commissioned a 2 Lt in the USAF and shortly thereafter I was selected as a Regular Officer. After receiving advanced training in contract law, negotiations and logistics, I was assigned to the Air Defense Weapons Center, Tyndall AFB as a military contracting officer. I was also selected to direct the Base Honor Guard at Tyndall AFB as an additional duty.
In December, 1968 I was reassigned to the 13th Air Force Command, 6200 Air Base Group at Clark AB, Philippines. My actual duty station was in Manila as the Director of the Manila Area Contract Center. The operations of the Center included both Army and Navy contracting specialists, and 13th USAF liaison / contract personnel from the 13th USAF HDQTS, Tan Son Nhut AB, Vietnam. I had TDY assignments in Vietnam at the 13th USAF HDQTS, the TanSon Nhut AB and the Long Binh Army Post. After returning to the United States in 1970, I resigned my Regular Commission and accepted a Commission as a Captain in the USAF Reserve. I was assigned to the USAF HDQTS, Warner Robbins, Georgia as a Major Command Acquisition Officer. Subsequently I was promoted to the rank of LtCol, USAFR and completed 26 years of combined active duty service in the USAF and the USAFR. One of the additional duties I volunteered to perform for 10 years was serving as a USAF Academy Liaison Officer. It was a rewarding experience to meet so many outstanding families and their highly motivated sons and daughters.
