Graduated from Basic Training Co.D-2 April 5,1968 from Fort Dix New Jersey. AIT
at Fort Lee Va. Assigned to Vietnam, Landed at Cam Ranh Bay for my first tour about
May 1968 to 1969. assigned 1st Infantry Division at Dion, then to the 1st S & T BN.
at Lai Khe . (nicknamed " Rocket City" where I soon learned why.) There I refueled
Helicopters .
Extended in Vietnam for a 2nd Tour and after going home for a short leave returned
to Lai Khe again from 1969 to April 1970.
Extended in Vietnam for a 3rd Tour and after going home for a short leave returned to
Lai Khe refueling helicopters.
When the Big Red One was sent home in April of 1970, I volunteered to stay at
Lai Khe and was now assigned to the 227th Assault Helicopter BN. ( Chicken Man )
1st Cavalry Division, again I refueled helicopters and sometimes flew as a Door Gunner.
For my time in Vietnam I Earned a Bronze Star, Air Medal, Army Commendation
Medal w/3 oak leaf clusters, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Medal, Vietnam
Service Medal w/4 bronze stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Gallantry Cross
w/palm , Civil Actions Honor Medal 1st Class unit citations.
On 6 Sept. 1970 was separated from active duty in Oakland Calif. Went Home got
married to my wife Denise ( of now 50 years ). Raised a Family , Tiffany , Matthew.
three Grandchildren Crista, MacKenzie, and Carson.
Will always be Proud of My Vietnam Service, and Proud of all the men I served
and flew with.
