biography
I grew up in South Jersey, graduating Haddon Heights High School in 1963. After enjoying 4 years of student deferment (Lehigh University), I was drafted into the army. Basic was at Fort Dix, then AIT at Fort Polk, where on graduation I was recommended for NCO School at Fort Benning. Then, after TDY at Camp Crockett, Georgia, I spent most of calendar year 1969 near Chu Lai with the 198th LIB. For the first seven months, with A 1/6, I was in the field, mostly leading what were called night ambush patrols. Then I was appointed Duty NCO at the brigade Tactical Operations Center, and served in that capacity until the end of my tour.
