Richard James Wood

I grew up in Chicago, Illinois Widener University. I was in High School got bored in my Senior year and dropped out then joined the Army. I did my Basic training at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri. Took my AIT for basic radio repair (31B20) at Fort Knox, Kentucky . Then to Ft. Gordon, Georgia to do advanced radio repair training. From there I was sent to Naha, Okinawa. I was assigned to the vehicle repair shop. (No availability for Field Radio repairman (31E20). I put in for first available MOS spot. After 6 months in Okinawa , I was reassigned to 128th Signal Company (24th Transportation Battalion) Cam Rahn Bay, Vietnam. My primary job was to take good radios and a stock of radio part to repair radios in the field. I would drive the commo van from Cam Rahn Bay to Nha Trang, to get orders of what locations to go to and repair damaged radios. I would get in the first convoy headed north. My repair sites included Pleiku, Chu Lai, Hue, Ban Me Thuot and Da Nang. once all parts and equipment exhausted. I would return to base to replenish and reload additional parts and repaired radios.
