biography
I enlisted in the US Army in 1967, shortly after turning 17. I arrived in Vietnam in September 1968 and was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 40th Artillery, 199th Light Infantry Brigade as an artillery surveyor. I volunteered for a second tour and was assigned to the 8th Battalion 4th Artillery, 108th Artillery Group, in Dong Ha on the DMZ. I finished my tour with the D Co., 4th Battalion 12th Infantry, 199th Light Infantry Brigade as a forward observer. I returned to the US in September 1970. After graduation from university, I worked as a journalist in Asia for more than 30 years.
