biography
Applied for Navy ROC (Reserve Officer Candidate) program during my sophomore year in college. Reported to OCS Newport RI after my junior year (1973) for 6 weeks of summer training. Returned to OCS after graduation from college to complete training and receive commission of Navy Officer.
After commissioning transferred to active duty status and received orders to the USS Independence (CV62) as division officer for operations (OI). As part of ships company, stood bridge watch and became qualified as Officer Of the Deck.
Later transferred to Weapons Department as Fire Control Officer for Point Defense Division. Received separation orders from active duty in 1977.
