biography
Leaving boot camp I was assigned to the oldest ship in the Navy, USS Cimmarron AO-22. I took a friends orders to Danang NAVSUPACT arriving incountry in June 1968. Assigned to Danang Harbor Patrol and struck for GMG. After 8 months we lost the 23 boat up in our detachment in Cua Viet and I volunteered to replace Robert Barron, KIA as Gunner on the 23 boat. I was only TAD so after 4 months was sent back to Danang and eventually home. Life in Cua Viet was really being in a war zone. Experienced several firefights and nightly incoming. Went back to the World in July 1969.
