John Dennis Raddatz

biography

Born in Virginia, my family moved to Bay City Michigan in 1948 when I was five. After graduating from Handy High School (1961), I attended and graduated from Western Michigan University (1966). Entered the Army and attended Officer Candidate School receiving my commission in 1968. My first post as an officer was in West Berlin Germany as Recon Platoon Leader in the Berlin Brigade. I was sent to VietNam in June of 1969 and was sent to the 2/2 mechanized unit in the middle of one of the battles for Nui Ba Den (the Black Virgin Mountain) I became platoon leader of the Recon Platoon in the Michelin Rubber Plantation, the Fish Hook area and Thunder Road, as well as the Saigon River. I rotated back to the States in March of 1970. I joined the Army Reserves in 1971 and retired as LTC in 1997.
