biography
I graduated from Jefferson Sr. High School, Alexandria, MN in 1962, and attended the University of Oklahoma and the University of Minnesota before enlisting in the Air Force in April, 1966. I served two years at the Vandenberg AFB Hospital in California before being selected for aeromedical evacuation training at Brooks AFB. I received an onward assignment to the 903rd AME Squadron at Danang and reported in October 1968. I served 11 months and flew more than 100 combat missions before receiving an "early out" in October 1969. After discharge, I returned to school at the University of Colorado and graduated MCL with a degress in Political Science. I started graduate school at the American Graducate School of International Management in Glendale, AZ, before being call up to join the U.S. Foreign Service in September, 1974. I served 21 years as a diplomat before retirement in 1995. I served in Mozambique, Portugal (twice), Belgium and the Sinai Desert of Egypt, as well as Washington, DC. After retirement, I was a part owner of a custom computer store in Montgomery, AL for a few years before returning to the Washington, DC area. Throughout my USAF and State Department career and a writing job after my return to the DC area, I have been in nearly 50 foreign countries. I speak fluent Portuguese, bad French, a little German, and a couple of words each in Arabic and Mandarin Chinese.
