biography
Entered the Army in February, 1967. Basic training at Ft. Knox, KY. D-10-5, 3rd Platoon. AIT was at Ft. Eustis, VA (Transportation School). Upon completion I was stationed at Ft. Lee, VA. Attached to HQ Company Special Troops and worked at the Post Transportation Office. Went from E-2 to E-5 in 15 months. Was up for special duty assignment but just prior to everything being finalized my name was on the levy for Vietnam. Was to fill an E6 slot, but when I got to my duty station (Battalion HQ for 1st Signal Brigade) they had made some changes and did not need me for that position. I was offered two options. Stay there and fill a position or go back to Long Binh for reassignment. I decided to stay there. Worked as a Personnel Actions Specialist for the first six months and then transferred to the NCO Club where I handled all of the accounting duties. Also did courier duty, going to our detachments and picking up documents for the Battalion HQ. Got an "early out" as I had less than 90 days to serve when I got back stateside.
