Craig Nels Swanson

biography

After graduating H.S. I tried college for one year, but it wasn't for me. The next fall I entered Dunwoody Industrial Institute's Tool, Die and Moldmaking course, graduating in June 1970. Spent the summer working 2nd shift in a factory machine shop until I entered active duty with the first stop for basic at Ft. Knox. The next stop on my military career was a stop at Ft. Gordon, Ga., for MP school. After leaving Ft. Gordon the next stop was Lackland A.F. base for military working dog training. After graduating from Lackland the next assignment was at Nike Hercules missile site in Rhode Island. Upon ETS I returned home to be assigned to 47th MP Co. of the MinnARNG for a 1 year tour. Upon leaving ARNG U re-entisted with 385th Engr Grp's Aviation section, where I spent 15 years until they were taken over by 23rd Aviation (Attack). In 1995 all Aviation assets were removed the USAR and given over to the ARNG. That stayed functional until 2001 where we became a Blackhawk helicopter Battlion. That was where I finished my military career, retiring in May 2005 as a 1st Sgt.
