Allan Dale Hoekstra

biography

Served in the Navy from February 1966 through August 1974. Following college graduation completed training at Officer Candidate School, Newport Rhode Island, becoming an officer in the Naval Reserve. Was selected to attend legal training and then became a legal officer in the Navy. Starting August 1966, served eleven months on Naval Hospital Ship Repose in the Marine Corps section of Northern South Vietnam. (Commanded ship movements from the bridge on a four hour on and eight hours off rotation, helped land helicopters, drafted correspondence for the captain, responsible for ship’s personnel office and legal matters). The ship supported over 26 combat operations taking on wounded marines directly from the Vietnam battlefield.
